How To Import Legacy Files Into Label Designer

Last Modified: 11/29/2022

A step-by-step guide to importing LabelForge (legacy) files into LabelForge Pro, for a user that may be upgrading

Instructions

Whether a customer is upgrading from older units, or simply wishes to use the latest supported software, if they have previously created label designs in LabelForge (files with the .cnv file extension), they need to convert their label templates into a file type that is compatible with Label Designer. We have created an easy to use tool for importing their label designs into Label Designer for their convenience.

The steps below outline how to use the Import feature. This feature is accessed within the Label Designer module, on both the embedded unit and the LabelForge Pro software.

  1. With Label Designer opened, click the hamburger menu in the top left.

  2. Click the Import button within the hamburger menu.
  3. A file prompt will open asking you to import a label.

  4. Select the file, and click Open, or simply double click the file.
  5. Your LabelForge (legacy) file will now be open within Label Designer! There will be a temporary .lfld (Label Designer’s file type) file
saved in the same location that you imported your .cnv file from. It will have _000 appended, to differentiate the base file name from the .
    cnv file.

Please note, the import process is not completely perfect. Due to the limitations of legacy LabelForge, certain objects may be slightly misplaced, lack transparency, or generally need a small amount of adjustments before they are up to the same standard as the legacy file.
